Hey Reader!
I hope you're having a fantastic summer if you're not yet back at school. Me? I've been back for three weeks already! This school year is super exciting to me for several reasons, but the biggest one is that I've stepped into a school-wide Reading Strategist role this year! I am loving every single day so far!
The hottest topic in the reading world recently is the Science of Reading. When I started diving into the research about nine months ago, my biggest concern was that this phrase was just the newest buzzword that companies would be stamping on their curriculum packages to get districts to buy them.
Boy, was I wrong (and I'm SO glad!).
The Science of Reading is an amazing (and amazingly huge!) body of research that spans decades and scientific disciplines to tell us how, when, and what people learn to read. It's truly fascinating, and that's what led me to move into the school reading strategist position!
If you've never heard of it, never started researching it, or just want to know more than you do now, I'm creating an entire series on my blog about it over the next several weeks!
I've kicked it off this week with this blog post, The Science of Reading Research: An Overview and Explanation. Click the title to take you straight to the post! I've laid out the basics for you, and I hope it gets you excited to dive in!
I also created this infographic to give you the gist of the overview. Click it to add it to your Pinterest boards.
Talk again next week, with the first part of the Science of Reading series! Until then, reply to me if you have any SOR quesstions, things you'd like to know, or ideas for future posts!
❤️ Nicole
I'm a been-there-done-that teacher. I've been a public educator for over 13 years fighting for scraps to pay my bills. I've stayed up late nights and early mornings working on a side hustle to make ends meet. I'm a transitioned teacher who found happiness, wealth and success outside of the classroom. If any of these resonate with you, we should connect. I share all of my been-there-done-that tips, tricks, tools and resources to help educators in and out of the classroom spark passion and joy, no matter where you are headed. Welcome.
